Cafe Days

Rhythms and beats
pulse and play
in her ears as she tunes
out
the world
which moves and changes
around her

Umber eyes
closed and hidden
from the ever watching
stares
looks and glances
that attempt
to penetrate

She stays
strong and ignorant
to the whispers and
awestruck faces,

dark waves bop
and bounce along
with the various music
that plays in her earbuds

fingers dance
and type quickly
the poetry piece
or prose
that will appear

some days the piece
will only
take minutes to complete

other days she'll spend
hours in contemplation
to find the words to share

the ice melts
or the warmth settles
and grows cold
on the longer days
but she perseveres

Smiles of Kindness

As she walked past, the flowers bloomed on their own bright, vibrant colors. He watched her from a far, as the wind blew her honey-brown locks. She smiled as she caught his dark gaze, he returned the grin his heart warmed from her kindness. -ADF (04/17/2017)

I wrote this piece last week as a three sentence story, and it easily could be formatted to be it's own poem. If you haven't guessed or didn't know, I'm obsessed with Greek Mythology, a lot of my poems are based on Greek Mythology. This one centers around Hades and Persephone, I have written quite a few about their story. If you want more of Hades and Persephone or other Greek Mythology Gods or Heroes let me know.

Barely Awake

Sleep calls to me, as I strain to keep my eyes open. Dark lashes flutter open briefly, but fall close quickly. Grogginess enters the senses as I wake up for a small amount of time. -ADF

Cold

Cold

chills run up and down
my spine, through my blades
you seep into my bones
both new and old
through soft, smooth
aged, wrinkled

You are always there,
my friend from birth
to my death.
I feel you, every season
every year, every day
as I age and gray

you are constant
you're with me and will
stay
I can not shake you off,
or remove you.

You've sunk into
my bones, and have
imprinted yourself
into my mind, body,
and soul

Never leaving, yet
ever changing

Classroom Flirtations

As he met her gaze, from across the room, her cheeks flushed a rose pink. She averted a gaze and looked down at her desk, but sneakily glanced back at him to see he was still watching her. A soft smile grew on her face before she gestured her head with a raised eyebrow to the front of the classroom; he turned his attention to their teacher with a soft pout.

This was a three sentence short story, I'll be doing some of these as well. They're quick and fun to write, also they can be challenging.

Drowning

Soothing me in cold embrace, I relax. Soft gentle waves move me back and forth. Muffled sounds encompass my still form. Eyes closed, I slowly sank into the embrace of the waves. Drifting, dozing, in a daze

Slowly, lungs filling with blood and water. There was no escape, she fought and reached for the surface. Darkness encroached, eating away the light. The pale corpse frozen and lifeless, eyes open in terror. An obsidian halo surrounded her as her corpse stared straight ahead.

Anger and Concern

A loud bang, rang through the office, Amy jumped at the sound. She searched the room to see an angry thirteen year old stomped out of the grandfather clock.

"Damien," she hesitantly called out. "What's wrong?" She stood from her seat, and stopped her step son.

The black haired boy growled at Amelia. He didn't answer, he instead stepped around Amy and stormed out of the room.

Concerned eyes followed him, as he left. Amy turned to meet Bruce's blue gaze. "What happened?" She asked her husband softly.

(So, this month might also be drabbles, not just poems. But I will primarily feature poetry this month. And I switched back to the old format. The new one just wasn't working for me. I may, eventually move back to that format.)

Song of Waiting

fingers tap
in a rhythmic pattern
hearing the silent
sweet melody

a foot bounces
up, down, up, down
drumming along

the music pounds and beats
long dark locks
sway and snap, left and right
obsidian dances
in wild, fluid movements

as the tapping continues
time passes
fast quick speedily
slow sluggish

anxiousness slowly creeps
munches and sinks
into the stomach

an ache forms
eating away the peace
serenity
any and all
soothing thoughts

Too Tired

Sleep embraced her
Held her in a warm hug
Dark lashes fluttered
in quick blinks to stay awake

Sleep whispered sweet lullaby's
with a delicate voice in her ear

She drifted and dozed
in a hazy daze

Night Star (Originally Titled Star Bright)

twinkling brightly against the obsidian
small and infinitely unseen
each unique and unknown but many
wonder
what they look like
what do their stories tell us
are we truly alone?

This was a piece I wrote a few years ago, hence the date next to my signature. If I post a previous piece and have a date, I will post it at the end.

Empty

tick-tock
the clock sounds aloud
to the quiet empty room
an echo of the pretty brunette
who once
yes once
resided in this same room

gone were the days of laughter
smiles, sunshine, and warmth

the clock now struck
tick tock

in longing
